On 9 December 2025, IDEALIST hosted an Expert-to-Expert webinar on “Accelerating the green transition: towards net-zero manufacturing processes”, organised in collaboration with the AGORA Talks series and attended by 32 participants.
The session focused on practical technologies and industrial approaches to support the decarbonisation of European manufacturing, with examples ranging from cleaner production processes and low-carbon materials to CO₂ valorisation and AI-based optimisation.
Four perspectives on industrial decarbonisation
The webinar featured four experts working on different parts of the net-zero manufacturing challenge:
- Vincent Stepputat, Co-founder & CEO at plasmotion, addressed cleaner manufacturing processes.
- Dr. Ruben Casillas, Founder at Fungarium, presented mycelium-based, carbon-negative materials as an alternative to conventional fossil-based products such as styrofoam.
- Dr. Josef Glass, COO at CO2BioClean, focused on converting CO₂ emissions into valuable biopolymers.
- Koen Jasper, COO at Mavarick, contributed a perspective on decarbonising the wider supply chain through AI-driven optimisation.
Together, their contributions showed how the green transition in manufacturing can be approached from several complementary angles: improving production processes, replacing fossil-based materials, reusing industrial emissions and optimising supply-chain performance.
From technologies to practical use cases
A key element of the session was the focus on concrete applications. Rather than addressing decarbonisation only at a strategic level, the speakers shared technologies, operational approaches and practical use cases that can contribute to reducing the environmental footprint of industrial activities.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of combining innovation across materials, processes and digital solutions to move towards more sustainable manufacturing models.
